Nothing like returning to a dream.
The Longer Story -
It’s never too late to dream, and it’s never too late to start working on an old dream.
That’s one of my favorite messages to share to inspire and motivate others to start dreaming AND doing, and it’s also my story. My dream of being a speaker began in what feels like a few lifetimes ago. Before children, before several successful careers, I stepped onto a stage for the first time as a child and fell in love. And it didn’t hurt that I won a gigantic trophy for coming in third place in a speech contest. (Competition is one of my top CliftonStrengths talents, after all!)
But even if I hadn't won anything tangible like that trophy, I would have kept going. I fell in love. Not only did I enjoy being in front of an audience, but I also loved how my words could move people. How they smiled or laughed or nodded or disagreed — it didn’t matter as long as they were affected, as long as something I said led to them thinking or feeling something.
As life has a way of doing, of course, I did not follow this new love of mine. Not right away. Not for years, in fact. By the time I made my way back to the stage, I was a mother of three with all the speech content one could ever hope for…if one could have avoided all the painful parts that came with it.
Yet, if there’s one thing I’ve learned in life (sometimes more than once), it’s that there is something to learn from every experience. Every single moment of hurt, of pain, of struggle, and also of joy, holds so much for us to embrace, grow from, and push through. My life is rich with experiences (and I bet yours is, too), and though it hasn’t always been easy to press on, it has been necessary — and worth every minute.
I'm excited to keep going on this journey of life with each of you.
